Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Team Leader to join our Waste Management Consultancy business. The role supports rapid growth in the civil nuclear waste management sector, delivering expertise in waste strategy, inventory and compliance underpinning the future management of radioactive waste, spent nuclear fuels and nuclear materials. We also support clients with Site End-State decision making and underpin environmental activities. The UK client base includes waste producers, waste management organisations and strategic authorities across the waste lifecycle, with projects worldwide in Norway, Central & Eastern Europe and Japan. The role is a technical team leader position with responsibilities to grow the business in these areas and lead a team while conducting technical work in your specialist area. The role offers flexible working arrangements with a mix of office-based and home working; locations can include Harwell, Cumbria, Scrabster, Birchwood, or other locations on request.

Responsibilities – Technical delivery
  • Assessment of options for waste or environment-related issues using recognised approaches such as BAT and BPM.

  • Site End-State development projects including data gathering/analysis, options assessments and technical justification.

  • Waste planning (waste management plans/cases, waste routing, feasibility assessments).

  • Support to environmental underpinning activities to satisfy regulatory compliance (e.g. environmental permitting, GRR, environmental management systems).

  • Stakeholder engagement.

  • Best practice studies or development of guidance documentation.

  • Provision of strategic input to company waste retrievals and decommissioning projects, potentially including on-site support.

  • Production of concise, well-written technical reports and presentation of results to clients.

Qualifications and experience
  • Degree qualification (or equivalent training and experience) in an appropriate mathematical, physical science or engineering discipline.

  • Significant experience or more in a comparable consultancy or strategic waste management-focused role (candidates need experience of some of the technical topic areas described above, not necessarily all).

  • Experience of bid leadership and proposal preparation.

  • Ability to manage time and priorities while working on several varied projects.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including tailoring outputs to the requirements of different stakeholders.

Desirable experience
  • Recognised technical leadership within the industry.

  • Existing experience leading a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Practical experience of waste management on nuclear sites.

  • Formal project management qualifications.
