We have an exciting opportunity to join our Eating Disorders Day Programme Service for young people and their families to attend.

This leadership team manager role is open to both Occupational Therapist or Registered Mental Nurse.

The Day Programme provides an enhanced level of care in the community following specialist inpatient treatment or step-up care from the community for young people with eating disorders. The service provides a structured and time limited programme of interventions for young people and their family members delivered by a multidisciplinary team.

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, motivated and able to lead and nurture a new multidisciplinary team to deliver this exciting service. You will have the support of an amazing senior eating disorders team for supervision, reflective practice and development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the day to day team management to ensure the smooth running of the service, including referral, assessment, patient allocation and discharge processes. You will ensure that service access and delivery is efficient, effective, evidence based, needs led and young person and family focused.

You will provide and also oversee supervision and appraisal for staff, monitor performance, manage budgets, incidents and investigations, complaints and escalations; recruitment, induction and training.

The post holder will work clinically in the multidisciplinary team to undertake and support the delivery of clinical interventions and duties.

It is in close proximity to our main eating disorder site at South Kensington and Chelsea Mental Health Centre, London, SW10 9NG

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

The Post holder will be responsible for the day to day team management to ensure the smooth running of the service, including referral, assessment, patient allocation and discharge processes. You will ensure that service access and delivery is efficient, effective, evidence based, needs led and young person and family focused.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Team Management
  • To ensure the appropriate and accurate use of the patient information database System One
  • To ensure daily operational management of the service in accordance with the objectives of the service
  • To ensure that the service is delivered to the highest standard in terms of fair access, equality of opportunity and that uphold anti discriminatory practice
  • To ensure (in conjunction with the service leads, Heads of Professions and Lead Clinicians) that practice within the team meets relevant standards, is appropriate, timely, safe and follows agreed professional practice
  • To manage the referrals into the service and allocation of work across the team, ensuring that work which is accepted in to the service meets with the eligibility criteria and that other referrals are re-directed to other appropriate agencies
  • To work in conjunction with the Lead Occupational Therapist for ED to support quality assurance systems that report performance against KPIs and provide staff with feedback on their performance
  • To establish and maintain effective working relationships arrangements with colleagues, children and young people, parents and other key stakeholders.
  • To represent the service at care quality group and operational meetings in ED
  • To ensure that staff engage in regular meetings, training and team building with the goal of promoting a working environment that is open, honest, supportive and outward looking.

People Management

  • To ensure the effective use of human resources ensuring safe levels of staffing which reflect the necessary and appropriate skill mix
  • To ensure that all staff are in receipt of regular appraisal, training and professional development support, liaising with Heads of profession and training departments as appropriate
  • To provide clinical and line management supervision to day programme and support staff
  • To identify the training needs of junior staff and lead in the development and delivery of training initiatives; ensuring that all staff remain compliant with statutory and mandatory training requirements.
  • To facilitate and contribute to multi-disciplinary training initiatives including the induction of new staff.
  • To be an educator for students on practice placement, in line with local guidelines, ensuring that practice placement educators facilitate placements for the required number of weeks.
  • To monitor sickness absence, annual leave, training and study leave, taking any appropriate management action as required
  • To ensure all staff are trained and participate in regular audit
  • To ensure all staff are pro-active in contributing to team and service training initiatives.

Resource Management

  • To have delegated for the budget within the service ensuring that the team works effectively within the allocated financial framework and to regularly meet with the Service lead to review budgets
  • To identify any potential areas/events/situations that may have an adverse impact on financial expenditure for the service. This will include taking appropriate action to eliminate or minimise such adverse impact and informing your line manager at the earliest opportunity.
  • To act as a signatory with respect to staff claims, petty cash and the purchase of basic equipment and materials

Clinical

  • Provide assessments of children and young people referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources
  • Formulate and implement plans for the formal treatment and/or management of the child/young person’s problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings
  • Be responsible for implementing a range of therapeutic interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups. These will include long and short-term interventions as appropriate to need
  • Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of children and young people whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans
  • Provide specialist expertise, advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to children and young people’ formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan
  • Provide clinical leadership to staff in the service
  • Contribute directly and indirectly to a framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all children and young people of the service, across all settings and agencies serving children and young people with learning disabilities and mental health problems/challenging behaviour
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual children and young people and to provide advice to other professions on risk assessment and risk management
  • Act as care coordinator, where appropriate, taking responsibility for initiating planning and review of CYP ED Day Programme care plans including children and young people, their carers, referring agents and others involved the network of care
  • Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of children and young people under their care and to monitor progress during the course of both university and multi-disciplinary care.
