A leading local authority in Scotland seeks a Team Leader for Justice Services within HMP Barlinnie. The role involves managing staff and delivering statutory social work for prisoners, guiding them through release and rehabilitation. Role: Team Leader (Justice Services)
Location: GCHSCP, Barlinnie Prison, 81 Lee Ave, Glasgow G33 2QX
Contract Status: Permanent with a temporary location at Barlinnie until March 2026

Social Work Services in HMP Barlinnie are provided by Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership (GCHSCP), funded by the Scottish Prison Service (SPS). Our team oversees the delivery and supervision of the justice statutory social work function in a prison setting.
The Team Leader plays a key role in managing staff undertaking the Justice statutory Social Work function. Responsibilities include:
- Tasks related to short and long-term prisoners who would be subject to statutory supervision in the community upon release
- Tasks related to prisoners convicted of Schedule 1 offences
- Providing a duty service
- Delivering one-to-one offence-focused interventions
- Liaising with other services and SPS headquarters regarding management tasks
- Overseeing risk management practices related to release and first grant of temporary release processes.
Candidates must possess a degree or diploma in Social Work (or Social Work equivalent). Please refer to the Person Specification for full details of the required qualifications, skills, knowledge, and competencies for this role.
Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential upon taking up appointment. Successful candidates will be required to pay for their PVG Membership or Scheme Checks.
Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is mandatory. You must either already be registered or have applied within 3 months and be registered within 6 months of your start date. Currently, local authority staff are not required to pay SSSC fees as part of the local government pay deal.
These roles are exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).
