We have a secondment opportunity for a dynamic, engaging, and self-motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Nurse/Midwife for the Women and Children’s Research Delivery Team.
The post will be a fixed term contract until 31/03/2028 at 0.2wte to support the secondment of the current post holder, working flexibly alongside them to undertake staff and portfolio management responsibilities.
It is essential that you obtain line management approval prior to submitting an application.
The post will be reviewed on an annual basis to ensure the required funding stream still applies. In case of withdrawal of funds the postholder will revert to their substantive role.

You will be a registered Nurse/Midwife with current NMC registration, with proven relevant research and extensive post-registration experience or interest in Women and Children’s health.
The postholder will be leading and managing a team of Research Nurses and Midwives with the responsibility for delivering high quality research and clinical care and act as an expert resource for staff members.
You will liaise closely with other Team Leaders, Senior Managers and Support Office colleagues, promoting an open and team focused working environment.
The focus of the role will be split between line management duties (including team leadership such as appraisals, sickness/absence reporting and monitoring appropriate staffing levels and skills mix) and clinical research delivery such as attending meetings, reviewing protocols, contributing to departmental SOPs and action plans for poorly recruiting studies.
The post holder will need to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and effectively manage their own time to fulfil these key responsibilities.
The Research Development and Innovation Department at East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust works closely with Trust based clinicians, Universities, NHS and industry partners to give the local population of East Lancashire the opportunity to take part in research studies associated with their clinical conditions and the care and services they receive. We have developed a wide portfolio of studies & a growing reputation as a major player in clinical research. We are the first point of call for patients on research trials and no two days are the same.
Our Senior Research Management team fully support the ethos of compassionate leadership. We support flexible working and will consider all requests taking into account the needs of the service. You will have the opportunity to discuss this at interview.
The post will be based across both Burnley General Teaching and Royal Blackburn Hospitals as the team supports activity across both sites. However, there may be occasions where travel to other ELHT sites is necessary therefore flexibility is an essential attribute.
Most of the research activity is undertaken Monday to Friday within normal hours- however, times may also vary and early starts (7.30am onwards) and late finishes (after 5pm) may be required. There is also a possibility that you may support some studies where night/weekend working is needed, although this is not common at present.

it will be the responsibility of the post holder to ensure studies are delivered in line with agreed targets within the Trust's RD&I department, ensuring appropriate timelines for study set-up, maintenance and closedown in accordance with local, national and international legislation.
