Could you lead, manage and motivate a team, to be the best they can be and to deliver great outcomes for the environment? We are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic individuals with strong leadership skills to join our teams in Climate Change Trading and Regulatory Services (CCTRS).

You will be adaptable and resilient to build an efficient, knowledgeable and diverse team. You will provide leadership to officers and technical work leads and drive and deliver our work to achieve our Net Zero ambitions. You will be flexible and be able to guide your team through uncertainty and change.

The most important thing is your ability to connect with people, supporting them with the leadership they need to be their best.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

Whilst we are working flexibly between office locations and home, occasional travel to offices will be required. Your base location will be Warrington, Sheffield or Preston and you will need to be able to work from the office when required, including occasional travel for team meetings. Travel/commuting to your contractual office base location is at your own expense.

The team: The CCTRS team is part of Environmental Markets and Regulation within Operations Regulation & Monitoring. We regulate and administer various UK Government climate change schemes to protect and improve our environment.

Schemes include Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases (F-Gas) and Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS), UK Emissions Trading Scheme, Clean Heat Market Mechanism (CHMM), Climate Change Agreements and Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme. These schemes are central to ensuring the UK is meeting greenhouse gas emissions targets.

Experience/skills required: You will represent your team without being a subject expert, to bring together and motivate team members to do their best. You will be a fantastic role model as a leader within your team and wider department.

You should be able to demonstrate some of the following:

  1. The ability to lead a diverse group of people.
  2. Enthusiasm to improve how we do things.
  3. Excellent communication skills to engage with teams and individuals with a range of personalities and abilities.
  4. Leading change successfully and identifying opportunities to improve.
  5. The ability to deliver high priority work through your teams.
  6. A positive attitude, alongside a genuine desire to support others.
  7. Ability to manage competing workloads and to prioritise your own personal development, as well as that of your team members.

The candidate pack and role profile should be read along with the advert to understand the key accountabilities and skills needed.

Contact and additional information: We are currently advertising for two permanent opportunities, with the potential for further opportunities to arise. Candidates who meet the required benchmark in the interview may be considered for further opportunities in CCTRS within the next 6 months.

This is a desk-based role, with teams working flexibly between offices and home working. The posts are full-time although requests for other work patterns will be considered. We encourage flexible working hours and practices to help you strike a good balance between your work life and your personal life.

Applications and interviews are competency based. We advise that you contact the recruiting managers for further information about this and the role before submitting your application: Nathan.insole2@environment-agency.gov.uk or Sophie.murphy@environment-agency.gov.uk
