About the Role
As a Team Leader in our 6-bedded Young Adults residential service in the Wednesbury area, you will be caring for Young Adults aged 18-40. The service provides care and support for individuals with severe learning disabilities, acquired brain injuries, and complex health needs requiring 24-hour specialist care.
You will assist the management team in maintaining a safe and supportive environment that offers positive experiences. Managing health needs is a key part of your role, ensuring the delivery of tailored care to meet the individual healthcare requirements of our young people. Shift Details:
- This is a hands-on, shift-based role. You will lead shifts and supervise staff while providing direct support to young people. You will work 38 hours per week across various shifts—7am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, or long days—and your rota will include weekends.
Key Responsibilities of a Team Leader:
- Maintain a safe, caring, and consistent environment for young adults
- Support staff development and training to meet all agency standards as assessed by CQC
- Ensure healthcare, educational, and welfare needs of young people are met through effective management and supervision
- Promote positive relationships with Local Authorities and other agencies
- Assist in staff supervisions, performance reviews, and appraisals
- Support weekly/monthly rotas, audits, and record monitoring
- Deliver high-quality, tailored support to individuals
- Empower individuals to achieve personal goals, build confidence, and gain independence
- Promote equality and diversity, supporting smooth service operation
- Support health and educational needs of individuals
- Encourage development of life skills for independence
- Plan and participate in leisure activities
- Act as a keyworker, supporting individual care plans
- Follow all policies, procedures, and legislative requirements
- Participate in ongoing professional development
Qualifications & Experience:
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, Residential Care, or QCF Level 3 equivalent
- Ideally 1 year of experience in a Team Leader or Shift Leader role
- Ideally 2 years’ experience in a residential setting
- Ideally 2 years supporting people with learning disabilities
- Ideally 1 year supporting young people with complex needs
Ideal Candidate:
To succeed as a Team Leader, you should have:
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively at various levels
- Working knowledge of, and ability to follow, Care Plans
- Experience in shift leading, delegating tasks, supporting staff, and conducting supervisions
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- A full and valid driving license (as transportation of young adults may be required)
- A caring, approachable, and supportive attitude with a passion for improving young lives
