Job summary

A leading laboratory services company in Wolverhampton is seeking a full-time laboratory supervisor to oversee production output and quality of microbiology samples. The successful candidate will manage a team, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and development. Candidates should have A-Levels in Microbiology, laboratory experience, and strong management skills. The role requires a flexible shift pattern over three weeks including weekends.

Qualifications

Job description

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

The purpose of this role is to be responsible for the supervision of production output and quality of microbiology samples in a busy laboratory environment. The candidate will ensure all team members understand the company’s targets and objectives, and their role in achieving them, along with the appropriate training and development of each team member.

Please note this is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. The shift pattern involves working weekends on a three-week rotation:

  1. Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10am to 6pm; Saturday 12:30 to 20:30; Sunday 11:30 to 19:30.
  2. Week 2: Tuesday to Friday 12:00 to 20:00.
  3. Week 3: Monday to Friday 14:00 to 22:00.

The initial training shift pattern will be Monday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00.

Key responsibilities include supervising staff to ensure efficient production, ensuring work meets client requirements within deadlines, leading microbiology production following LEAN principles, managing team performance, recruitment, training, and conducting appraisals. The role also involves managing investigations, discipline, absence, liaising with store managers, ensuring compliance with procedures, maintaining laboratory standards, and supporting audits.

Qualifications required include A-Levels or equivalent in Microbiology, strong knowledge of UKAS microbiology activities, laboratory experience, familiarity with customer requirements, NCW/Complaints/Environmental Monitoring experience, IT skills including eLIMS, and strong management and communication skills.
