Criminal Justice, Women's and Families Team Leader – City and Hackney Recovery Service

Turning Point, working in partnership with Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest and Antidote, provide the City and Hackney Recovery Service which works with local residents concerned about their drug and alcohol use. The service works across each of City and Hackney’s neighbourhoods in order to be accessible, local and inclusive. The fully integrated service contributes to recovery, social inclusion and improving the quality of life of all our service users in the City of London and Hackney borough. It aims to be shaped by the community needs and voices of service users, carers, families, communities, all staff and volunteers.

As a Team Leader you’ll have the chance to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support who are experiencing difficulties from drugs and alcohol use, leading a team to work with them to develop the personal, flexible and realistic support packages they need to help turn things around.

As a Team Leader we offer a starting salary of £35,709 rising each year in line with our pay progression salary bands, rising to £41,774 per year + £3,633 ILW. (Dependent on experience you may be offered a starting salary above the initial starting salary).

Role Responsibility

As the Criminal Justice, Women's and Families Team Leader within the City and Hackney service you will be overseeing continuity of care of prison leavers, supporting complex women and family members and or loved ones of individuals where alcohol and or substance use is impacting their lives. You will lead a team of workers holding caseloads of clients and provide line management supporting them to provide high quality psychosocial interventions leading to positive engagement for onward allocation to the various teams within the service.

You will have experience in and a passion for working with alcohol and or substance users and understand the importance of meeting regulatory requirements within the service. Partnership working will play an important role in your day to day work and you will have experience in building and maintaining excellent relationships with local and national organisations to support the work of the service. Internally you will work closely with other managers and staff from teams across the service. Exceptional organisational skills are essential for this pivotal role in a very busy service.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven track record in relevant area
  • In depth knowledge of relevant theory and practice
  • Experience of supervising a team
  • Experience of working towards achieving individual and team objectives
  • Numeracy, literacy and IT skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and ability to adapt communication to suit the audience, e.g. service users, commissioners or staff
  • Good time management and able to work to deadlines
  • A participative leadership and management style in normal circumstances
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the complex and multiple needs faced by the service user group
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the Valuing People framework
  • A demonstrable belief in a values-led approach to working with service users with a Substance Misuse issue.
  • Demonstrable track record that is DANOS compliant
  • Knowledge and experience of developing, implementing and reviewing substance misuse-related interventions, i.e. group work programmes
  • A sound working knowledge of current legislation (e.g. Models of Care) and the ability to translate this into practice
