Job summary

Debenhams Group is seeking a Team Lead for its Software Development team in Manchester. You will lead four developers, balancing hands-on technical leadership with people management to guide architecture and delivery across internal applications built with React and Node.js.

You’ll work with AWS, CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and Terraform, plan sprints with the Development Manager, and own incident response and RCA for your team’s apps. The role is based in Manchester three days a week.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of development experience with at least 3 years in a management or team-leading capacity.
• Hands-on React and Node.js experience in production environments.
• Experience with CI/CD using GitHub Actions and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
• Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, DocumentDB, DynamoDB).
• Familiar with event-driven architectures (SNS/SQS/EventBridge) and AWS cloud services.
• Proven leadership and coaching abilities, capable of guiding a team of engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of four developers building internal applications for Debenhams Group.
• Balance hands-on technical leadership with people management and coaching.
• Review code, set direction, and make architectural decisions.
• Plan sprints with the Software Development Manager and manage backlog.
• Own incident response and root cause analysis for team applications.
• Collaborate on architecture and ensure delivery risk is managed.
