Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is Full-time over the 7 days.

The post holder will provide professional leadership in delivering patient care within the Recovery and Same Day Admissions Department, which forms part of a major trauma centre and supports 20 operating theatres. This includes direct supervision and support of nursing and support staff, ensuring care is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with the highest standards of clinical quality and patient experience. They will be responsible for coordinating daily operational activities, promoting effective communication across the multidisciplinary team, and managing patient flow to meet service demands. The role also involves contributing to the development and implementation of clinical protocols and service improvement initiatives, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence.

In the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse, the post holder will assume managerial responsibility for the department, including staff allocation, escalation of clinical concerns, and oversight of patient safety and service delivery. They will also support the Senior Charge Nurse in achieving departmental objectives, including workforce development, audit participation, and quality assurance.

This role requires PVG Scheme membership. If the post holder is not currently a member for the relevant regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult), a satisfactory application must be completed through Disclosure Scotland before starting in post.
