Wimbledon College currently have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated practitioner to join the team as a Teaching Support Assistant, supporting teaching staff with responsibility for the development and educational provision of learners

JOB OVERVIEW

You’ll be responsible for providing lesson supervision to cover for absent teachers. Other duties include providing support for teachers in their daily work such as assisting with preparation of resources, setting up classroom displays and general administration support for a department or faculty. This can also include working with the 6th Form Team and supporting pupils by supervising the study halls.

Job requirements

Skills & Knowledge

  • A minimum of 3 GCSEs at C grade or above, including English and Maths
  • Experience of class supervision and assisting with lesson provision to achieve positive learning outcomes
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work in tandem with teaching staff
  • Ability to be empathetic and understanding to the needs of students

Duties

  • Term-time hours (based on 40 weeks per year: term time plus 10 days) 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday
  • To undertake cover, providing lesson supervision in the absence of a teacher.
  • To support sport and activity sessions.
  • To register students, accompany them to assemblies, encourage their full attendance at all lessons and their participation in other aspects of school life.
  • Provide detailed verbal and written feedback on progress, pupil responses to learning activities and pupil behaviour to teachers.
  • Actively seek information regarding, and utilise, the range of activities, courses, organisations and individuals to provide support for students to broaden and enrich their learning.
  • Demonstrate and promote the positive values, attitudes and behaviour. Establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Setting up displays of pupils’ work.
  • Cataloguing, preparing, issuing and maintaining equipment and materials.
  • Stocktaking and ordering resources.
  • To comply with school policies and procedures. Including safeguarding, health, safety and data security. Reporting any concerns to an appropriate person.
  • To be aware of confidential issues linked to home/pupil/teacher/schoolwork and to keep confidences appropriately.
  • To undertake other appropriate tasks as directed by line managers or the Headteacher.
  • Term time plus working (Based on NJC scale 5 point 12-15 £31,524 -32,931 p.a. FTE*)
  • Holiday Pay 6.6 weeks p.a., spread over monthly payments: Pro rata Salary £28,371-£29,6379* p.a.)* Pay award pending
