Job description

Teaching and Learning Support Assistant working in our 2 and 3-year-old rooms - 3 days a week, and Family Support Worker / Deputy Safeguarding Officer for 2 days a week

Teaching and Learning Support Assistant Level 3 SCP 3-4 for TLA (3 days): £24,027-£24,404 (full-time equivalent)

Family Support Worker Level 5 SCP 7-12 for Family Support Worker (2 days): £24,790-£27,711 (full-time equivalent)

Skills and Experience:

Family Support Assistant
  1. Develop and maintain effective contact and communication with parents/carers and families, including home visits.
  2. Work with school staff to plan strategies and interventions for individual pupil issues.
  3. Provide advice and guidance to families to support pupil achievement and self-esteem.
  4. Implement action plans with parents/carers; monitor and report progress.
  5. Signpost families to sources of advice and guidance.
  6. Support school strategies to improve behaviour and attendance.
  7. Work with external agencies such as health professionals, Children’s Centres, and Family Hubs.
  8. Maintain pupil records and case files.
  9. Undertake first-day contact with parents/carers.
  10. Liaise with staff regarding persistent absentees and follow-up on incomplete registrations.
  11. Develop and deliver family-related activities to meet community needs.
  12. Act as Deputy Safeguarding Officer: attend safeguarding meetings, support families with action plans, and assist with safeguarding documentation and training.
  13. Support team approach involving adults, children, parents, governors, and external agencies.
  14. Promote effective partnership working and transition processes with local schools and nurseries.

The governors are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Teaching and Learning Support Assistant (Level 2) working 3 days a week, combined with a 2-day Family Support role (including Deputy Safeguarding), in our nursery school. This role offers valuable experience in supporting children and families, with potential for extension after one year. We prefer a single candidate for both roles but will consider separate applications:

  • Teaching and Learning Support Assistant: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
  • Family Support Assistant: Tuesday, Thursday

Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience working with early years children.
  • Ability to assist with eating, dressing, toileting, and hygiene, encouraging independence.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Childcare or equivalent.
  • Experience working with SEN children in early years.
  • Understanding of the EYFS curriculum.
  • Ability to support planning and deliver inclusive activities based on children’s responses.
  • Ability to build positive links with families and liaise with external agencies.
  • Contribute to pupil assessment through observations and records.
  • Willingness to coordinate an area of learning and support team development.
  • Commitment to professional development.
  • Support team approach involving adults, children, parents, governors, and external agencies.
  • Support effective partnership working and transition processes with local schools and nurseries.
