Job summary

Oxford Brookes University invites applications for a Laboratory Technician in Biology & Environmental Sciences. The role supports teaching in state-of-the-art labs, designing sessions, preparing materials and assisting students with practical learning experiences.

You will work mainly with Biology practicals and field trips for undergraduate and postgraduate students, while also supporting chemistry-based practicals and maintenance of invertebrate stocks. Immediate start preferred.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND/BSc in a relevant discipline or substantial relevant laboratory experience.
• Experience in Environmental Sciences, ideally in higher education laboratory settings, combined with knowledge of analytical equipment.
• Experience in laboratory health and safety documentation and procedures, and ability to demonstrate an understanding of health and safety in a laboratory.
• Excellent communication and practical skills.
• Ability and willingness to work as part of a team, but also able and willing to work on own initiative and learn new skills.

Responsibilities

• Support teaching in the faculty through the design of teaching sessions and preparation of materials.
• Help students in their practical learning experiences during biology practicals and field trips.
• Assist with chemistry-based practicals in related subjects and maintain invertebrate stocks when needed.
• Ensure a safe and effective laboratory environment and promote academic excellence.
• Collaborate with a small technical team and share team responsibilities.
