Job summary

Heriot-Watt University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Aerospace Engineering based at the Edinburgh campus. The role focuses on teaching, assessment, and course development across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Aerospace Engineering within the Mechanical Engineering Teaching discipline.

The successful candidate will lead lectures, tutorials, and labs, supervise research projects, and act as a personal tutor while contributing to course delivery and enhancement

Qualifications

• Good first degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Expertise in Aerodynamics, Flight mechanics and aerospace control systems, or Space systems/space propulsion.
• Ability to communicate engineering concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
• Experience in teaching and assessment of undergraduate and graduate engineering students in aerospace topics.
• Excellent oral and written communication, teamwork and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver taught content of Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering programmes (lectures, tutorials, labs) as directed by the Global Head of the Mechanical Engineering Discipline.
• Act as personal tutor to assigned students.
• Support undergraduate and postgraduate programmes through assessment and moderation of coursework and exams.
• Develop learning materials in aerospace/mechanical engineering subjects (notes, videos, assessments).
• Engage in administrative tasks within the School’s teaching ambitions and initiatives.
