Job overview

The purpose of this post is to identify and train doctors to be clinical teachers. It is aimed at applicants looking for posts at FY2/ST1-2/ST3+ scale. This is a challenging post that will test skills that are not the focus of most clinical training roles yet are highly relevant and transferable to senior clinical roles. This post will encompass more than just teaching.

Main duties of the job
  1. Teaching of medical students in various clinical settings such as wards, ITU, theatre, clinics, or assessment units.
  2. Teaching in non-clinical settings including seminar rooms, clinical skills labs, and lecture theatres.
  3. Providing clinical and communication skills teaching across the entire course, in liaison with the clinical skills lead and staff.
  4. Teaching both Year 4 and Year 5 students.
  5. Supporting and organising clinical skills training and the critical care programme.
  6. Delivering classroom and seminar-based teaching.
  7. Coordinating medical student activities, liaising with clinical teachers, the practice educator team, and secretariat.
  8. Evaluating aspects of curriculum and its delivery.
  9. Participating in student assessments such as mini-CEX, DOPs, case-based discussions, and OSCE examinations.
  10. Completing formal studies in medical education.
  11. Maintaining clinical skills.
  12. Being fully involved in the weekly teaching programme for Year 5 students.
  13. Covering for tutors during bedside teaching if required.
