Background
To teach and advise undergraduate and postgraduate students within own subject area and within an established teaching programme, managed supervised by member of staff with ultimate responsibility for the design, delivery and assessment of the teaching programme.
The Department
TheDepartment of Film and Creative Writingis part of theSchool of English, Drama and Creative Studieswithin the College of Arts and Law. The Department is committed to creative and critical practice in teaching and research and includes among itsstaffinternationally renowned scholars and award-winning writers. There is a vibrant PhD community, and the department enjoys strong relationships with national and international organisations, regularly hosting professional conferences, literary festivals and guest speakers. We are proud to work with B-Film: The Birmingham Centre for Film Studies on a range of research and student-focussed events and projects that run throughout the year.
The School
The School of English, Drama and Creative Studiesis a vibrant and thriving school situated within the College of Arts and Law. It hosts a community of academics and students researching and learning together in areas including Linguistics, Media and Communication, Film Studies, English Literature, Creative Writing and Drama and Theatre Arts. Many of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes combine academic scholarship with creative practice and offer students opportunities to learn from industry experts and partners in the Creative Industries.One of the School’s strengths includes the study of Shakespeare both on the Edgbaston Campus and at the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon. EDACS encourages inter-disciplinarity and intellectual collaboration both in teaching and research.
Role Summary
As a full-time Teaching Fellow in the Department of Film and Creative Writing, the post holder will be expected to undertake up to 14 hours of timetabled teaching per week at undergraduate and postgraduate level.The post holder will also undertake personal tutoring and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate taught dissertations.The post will include organisation, management and leadership duties. The successful candidate will have considerable relevant teaching and assessment experience in creative writing and be committed to providing an excellent student learning experience.
The post is fixed-term, for one year from 1st September 2025 until 31st August 2026 due to the non-current funding stream.
