Job description

Teaching Assistants (Classroom or1:1 Support)

Start - September 2025

Grade: TA2 (pts 5-6)

Hours: 30 hours per week (variable contract 15-32 hours) Term Time Only + 5 TED Days

Monday - Friday 08:45am - 3:15pm (30 minute unpaid break)

There are two roles available. One for a Classroom Support Teaching Assistant and one for a 1:1 Support Teaching Assistant.

Woodfield Academy is a popular 5-form entry middle school with over 500 pupils on roll, aged 9-13 years. We are a happy, vibrant learning community, with high aspirations for the children in our care and the staff team that supports them.

1:1 Teaching Assistant (Temporary)

We are looking for a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to meet the specific needs of individual pupils, in line with their Education Health Care Plan. The successful candidate will be part of the SEND Team with a specific role to work with and support a student who has communication, cognition and learning needs. You will be required to support the pupil in mainstream lessons, in individual sessions when required and in other school activities such as trips and events, as appropriate. This role is linked to the continued attendance of a named pupil, your contract will cease when the pupil leaves the school or no longer requires support.

Classroom Support Teaching Assistant (Permanent)

We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant (TA2) to join a forward thinking team, who are dedicated to supporting our children in reaching their potential. You will have the opportunity to grow professionally, develop teaching and wider professional skills and make a huge contribution to the ever-growing success and reputation of our academy. Duties of a Teaching Assistant includes:

  • To support the student to facilitate access to teaching and learning environments and to achieve their objectives in their Educational Health Care Plan.
  • To establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations for engagement, learning and behaviour.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  • Work with pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis as directed by the teacher or SENCo
  • Assist with the planning of learning activities

To be considered for either of these roles, you will need:

  • GCSE in English and Maths at Grade C or equivalent
  • Have knowledge of the SEN code of practice
  • Experience of working with SEN children in a school/educational setting
  • Be committed to pastoral care, collaborative teamwork and flexible working
  • Be warm, positive, reflective, adaptive, patient and confident
  • Be sensitive to families with diverse backgrounds
