Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking a passionate teaching assistant to support pupils with autism aged 4-19 in a dedicated school near Guildford. You will assist with life skills, provide 1:1 tutoring and help pupils participate in trips within a calm, supportive environment.

The role includes excellent training and clear progression paths to Lead Teacher and Class Supervisor without requiring QTS, plus a £1000 welcome bonus paid in the first month and a part-time option (3 or 4 days).

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade C/4 or equivalent, in English Language & Maths.
  • Experience working with children and disabilities is preferred.
  • Comfortable supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and personal care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide teaching and support to pupils with autism following individualised curriculums.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons focusing on life skills.
  • Support pupils' participation in trips and activities.
  • Provide behaviourally based support to reduce challenging behaviours.
  • Assist with breaktime duties and playground supervision.

Your role would include:
  • Providing teaching and support to pupils with autism, following individualised curriculums
  • Planning, preparing and delivering lessons and activities, focusing largely on life skills
  • Supporting pupils' participation in trips, applying theory-based learning to practice
  • Providing behaviourally based support to reduce behaviours that impact quality of life
  • Providing personal care, encouraging pupils to maintain acceptable levels of hygiene (toileting, feeding)
  • Monitoring pupil progress, ensuring teaching is appropriate and effective for pupil needs
  • Assisting with breaktime duties including playground support and snack time
Skills and capabilities:
  • Minimum Grade C/4 or equivalent, in English Language & Maths
  • Professional, personal or voluntary experience of working with children and disabilities
  • Comfortable working with children who exhibit challenging behaviour
  • Comfortable supporting others with personal/intimate care where required
  • Ability to keep calm in high pressure situation
  • Own means of transport, due to location
