Job summary

A leading independent specialist school is seeking a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. You will play a vital role in assisting teachers and supporting the personal growth of students with complex needs, within a stimulating environment focused on child-led learning. This position operates on term time hours, allowing you to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people.

Qualifications

  • SEN Teaching Assistant role to support small classes and individual students.
  • Experience or willingness to work with learners that have various complex needs.
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher in managing a small class of 4-6 pupils.
  • Provide whole class support and occasionally 1:1 assistance.
  • Contribute to building strong foundations of support for learners.

Skills

Ability to teach and support learners with complex needs
Willingness to learn and build relationships
Ability to work individually and as part of a team
Teaching Assistant experience

Education

Experience in SEND settings (desirable, not essential)

A little about the school:

This is an independent specialist school that supports learners from 7-18 years with SEN and SEMH needs. The setting currently supports 65 learners and is at full capacity, the school is looking to expand in April 2026. This is an award winning school that is highly regarded and recognised in the community.

The school has a wonderful and inviting rural location and estate that enables them to place a strong emphasis on outside learning. This setting is an advocate for offering every pupil an enjoyable, stimulating and child led learning environment. The curriculum is inspiring, offering subjects such as Horticulture, Forest School and Horse Riding and Equine Studies. They also deliver a range of active, practical and creative subjects such as Science, Personal Social and Emotional Education (PSHE), Physical Education, Art, Textiles, Ceramics, ICT, Food Technology and Drama.

The Job:

This incredible setting is currently seeking a SEN Teaching Assistant to join their welcoming team. In this role you will support the class teacher in a small class of 4-6 pupils. In your role you will offer whole class support and on occasion 1:1 support. In this role you will be able to build strong foundations of support and truly see the difference your hard work makes. This role is needed on a full time basis. Monday-Friday 08:45-4:30pm. This is a term time only position.

Key skills and experience needed:

  • The ability to teach and support learners that have various complex needs
  • A willingness to learn and build relationships with learners
  • The ability to work as an individual and as a part of the team
  • Teaching Assistant experience
  • Experience working in SEND settings is desirable but not essential
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
