We are seeking to recruit a number of Student Support Assistants with a passion for supporting children with special needs at a SEN school in Hailsham. This is a brand new special school, and you will be working within a purpose-built new school building, teaching across the age ranges.

You will be working as part of a team that is responsible for developing, improving, and delivering exciting and innovative provisions for children who are not succeeding in mainstream education and require a nurturing, positive approach to achieve the best possible outcomes.

We are looking for devoted, resilient staff who can utilise therapeutically based teaching strategies combined with a caring, understanding, and nurturing approach to classroom and behaviour management. The successful candidates will be excellent practitioners with a commitment to fulfilling the needs of pupils experiencing behavioural, emotional, or learning difficulties, and social communication difficulties. The ability to motivate pupils towards high achievement is essential. Excellent administrative, organisational, and communication skills are also vital.

Role Purpose and Role Dimensions: The Support Staff for Conflict Resolution and De-escalation plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment within our SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) therapeutic special school. This position is responsible for promptly and effectively de-escalating conflict situations and resolving issues as they arise, enabling pupils to return to their classrooms and continue their learning journey. Duties and responsibilities of the post may change over time as requirements and circumstances change. The person in the post may also be required to carry out such other duties as may be necessary from time to time.

The School aims to provide a holistic learning environment with high aspirations for all of their pupils. They aim to incorporate and further develop best practice approaches in meeting the needs of:

  • Pupils with high functioning ASD and associated difficulties;
  • Pupils who may have experienced developmental trauma or other adverse childhood experiences that have impacted on their emotional and social development or their mental health;
  • Pupils with social, emotional, or mental health difficulties.
