Children attending a pupil referral unit present with social, emotional & mental health difficulties in students aged between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4. The role involves providing stability, education, and empowerment, considering each learner’s individualised and differentiated learning styles to ensure social, emotional, and educational integration.

The initial assignment will assess your fit within the setting, requiring you to be fully committed and enthusiastic about making a difference in children's lives. Willingness to use your initiative is essential. If the setting recognizes your potential, there is an opportunity for permanent employment and a clear career progression plan.

Job Description:

  • Operate within professional, ethical, and school policies when working with pupils and staff.
  • Encourage and support staff positively and use restraint training methods when managing escalating behaviours.
  • Support pupils during crises and help them deal with consequences.
  • Assist in the child's integration into the class/group.
  • Maintain good relationships with staff.
  • Empower pupils and promote positive regulation of social and emotional skills.
  • Support the child in focusing and completing work.
  • Develop trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Listen and offer appropriate support.
  • Provide behavioural records and report as required.

Job Specification:

  • At least 6 months solid experience in a pupil referral unit, alternative provision, or similar setting.
  • Level one or above Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Proactive approach.
  • Flexible with temporary work patterns.
  • Team Teach training desirable but training will be provided.
  • Competitive daily rate: £98-108.
  • Enhanced DBS subscribed to the update service or willingness to apply.
