Job summary

Young Foundations Limited's Stafford Hall School in Halifax is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 11–19, including those with autism and learning difficulties. The role focuses on motivating learners, supporting development in reading, numeracy and communication, and promoting inclusive practice.

You will work under a teacher, uphold safeguarding standards, and engage with parents to foster a supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Numeracy and literacy at GCSE A-C or NVQ Level 2 (or by test).
  • Effective computing skills for teaching and management.
  • Relevant work experience in a Primary/Secondary setting.
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek opportunities.
  • Culture of vigilance regarding safeguarding and child protection.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and parents/carers.

Responsibilities

  • Motivating, engaging and encouraging pupils with individual attention and task support.
  • Assisting in development areas such as speech, reading, numeracy, handwriting, etc.
  • Promoting inclusion of pupils with SEN and encouraging interaction with peers.
  • Monitoring pupil responses and adapting activities to achieve outcomes.
  • Carrying out and reporting systematic observations to track development.
  • Knowing and applying school policies on Child Protection, Health & Safety, Behaviour, and Learning.
  • Maintaining health, safety and security of self and others in learning environments.

Hours of Week: 40

Contract Type: Permanent - Term Time Only

Requirements:
  • Demonstrable levels of numeracy & literacy equivalent to GCSE (A-C) or NVQ Level 2 (or by test).
  • Effective computing skills for both teaching and management.
  • Relevant work experience in a similar background within a Primary/Secondary setting.
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities.
  • The ability to maintain and develop a ‘culture of vigilance’ with regard to safeguarding andchild protection.
  • To build positive relationships with both student and parents/carers.
As a Teaching Assistant you will be responsible for:
  • Motivating, engaging and encouraging the pupil(s) as required by providing levels of individual attention, reassurance and help with learning tasks as appropriate to pupils’ needs.
  • Assisting in developmental areas, e.g. speech and language, reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting/presentation etc.
  • Promoting the acceptance and inclusion of the pupil with SEN and encouraging pupils to interact with each other in an appropriate and acceptable manner.
  • Monitoring the pupil’s response to the learning activities and, where appropriate, modifying or adapting the activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve the intended outcomes.
  • Under the direction of the teacher, carrying out and reporting on systematic observations of pupils to gather evidence of their knowledge, understanding and skills: enabling the teacher to make judgements about each pupil’s stage of development.
  • Knowing and applying school policies on Child Protection, Health and Safety, Behaviour, Teaching and Learning, Equal Opportunities etc.
  • Complying with legal and organisational requirements for maintaining the health, safety and security of yourself and others in the learning environment.

Located in Halifax, Stafford Hall School accommodates 12 pupil and can teach up to 20 young people from the ages of 11 to 19.
