SEN Teaching Assistant – Bolton

Supporting Students with Autism and Complex Needs
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract: Full-time | Term-time only

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people? Do you have the patience, empathy, and resilience to support students with autism and complex needs? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for a dedicated and nurturing SEN Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant and supportive team at a specialist school in Bolton. This is an incredibly rewarding role where no two days are the same - and every day offers the chance to change lives.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students aged 5–16 with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, sensory processing difficulties, and communication challenges. You’ll provide one-to-one and small-group support to help pupils access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. The role may involve assisting with personal care and emotional regulation strategies, implementing tailored learning programmes, and using a variety of tools including visual aids, sensory resources, and assistive technology. You will also collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure holistic, student-centred support.

We’re looking for someone with previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly autism and complex needs. School-based experience is desirable but not essential. What’s most important is a calm, compassionate, and flexible approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain positive and proactive, even on challenging days. A good sense of humour and a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people are essential.

In return, we offer a welcoming and inclusive environment where staff are truly valued. You’ll benefit from ongoing training and development in SEN strategies, de-escalation techniques, and communication methods such as PECS and Makaton. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a team that genuinely changes lives every day, with opportunities for career progression and long-term roles for the right candidate.
