Job description

Teaching Assistant - SEN School, Salford
Full-Time | £90+ per day | Immediate Start Available

Are you someone who enjoys supporting children and young people to thrive? Do you have experience working with children and a willingness to get involved in all aspects of school life? If so, this could be the role for you.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Salford, supporting students aged 5-16 with a range of additional needs, including autism, moderate learning difficulties, and communication challenges. This role can be challenging at times, but it\'s incredibly rewarding as you see the real impact your support has on each student\'s progress and confidence!

About the Role

This is a varied and rewarding position where no two days are the same. You\'ll play a key part in supporting students both 1:1 and within the classroom, helping them to access learning and take part in wider school activities.

Your role will include:

  • Providing tailored 1:1 support to students with additional needs
  • Working alongside the class teacher to support small groups
  • Helping students engage with lessons, activities, and sensory sessions
  • Supporting behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and communication
  • Contributing to a positive, nurturing learning environment

You'll work closely with a skilled and supportive team who are all committed to giving each student the best possible experience of school.

What Makes This Role Different?

Working in a special school setting is a unique and often more fulfilling experience than in a mainstream classroom. You'll have:

  • Smaller class sizes, allowing for more meaningful interactions
  • A person-centred approach, where you can make a genuine impact
  • Opportunities to support learning in creative and practical ways
  • A strong sense of teamwork and shared purpose across staff
  • The chance to celebrate progress in ways that truly matter

This role is ideal for someone who is patient, adaptable, and enjoys seeing the difference they make each day - whether it\'s a moment of understanding, a breakthrough in behaviour, or simply helping a child enjoy coming to school.

What We're Looking For

You don\'t need formal qualifications for this role, but experience working with children is essential. That might be in a school, nursery, youth setting, care role, or similar.

We\'re looking for someone who is:

  • Calm, reliable and confident in working with children
  • Willing to get stuck in and be hands-on in the classroom
  • Positive, proactive, and able to follow direction from teaching staff
  • Interested in working with students with special educational needs
