Job description

Primary School Teaching Assistant (SEN/ALN Focus)

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Primary School Teaching Assistant to join a school in Caerphilly. The successful candidate will support learners across the Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2, with a specific focus on students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Additional Learning Needs (ALN). You will be working both in small groups and providing 1-to-1 support to ensure each child's individual needs are met.

Position Overview:

  • Role: Primary School Teaching Assistant (SEN/ALN Focus)
  • Location: Caerphilly
  • Pay: Starting from £88.92 per day
  • Working Hours: Part-time, full-time, and ad-hoc roles available (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm)

As part of this role, you will receive ongoing support from an award-winning recruitment agency and a dedicated consultant who will assist you throughout your placement. Our team is committed to providing a high level of support and guidance for all candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1-to-1 support and assist in small groups for students with SEN and ALN.
  • Work closely with teachers to implement tailored strategies that support the learning and development of students with additional learning needs.
  • Help create an inclusive learning environment that fosters the development of all children, including those with emotional, social, and learning difficulties.
  • Support students with behavioral challenges, sensory processing issues, and other ALN-related needs.
  • Collaborate with the teaching staff to monitor and record student progress, ensuring effective support.
  • Assist in adapting classroom resources and activities to meet the diverse needs of learners.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A strong understanding of SEN/ALN and the specific needs of students requiring additional support.
  • Experience in providing 1-to-1 support for students with a range of additional learning needs (e.g., dyslexia, autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorders, etc.).
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible attitude towards working with children with diverse needs.
  • The ability to implement individualized learning plans and support children with behavioural or emotional challenges.
  • A willingness to engage in training and development to further enhance your skills in supporting SEN and ALN students.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other support staff.

Essential Requirements:

  • At least 3 months' experience working with children with SEN/ALN (in a school or other relevant setting).
  • A fully enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate or the willingness to obtain one.
  • EWC registration (Education Workforce Council) as a school learning support worker.
  • A strong understanding of additional learning needs and how to implement strategies to support these learners effectively.
  • Right to work in the UK.
