PRU Teaching Assistant – BS16 Area

Location: BS16, BristolPay: £95–£107 per dayFull-time | Term-time only

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people who need extra support? We are seeking a dedicated and resilientTeaching Assistantto join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the BS16 area. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them re-engage with education in a nurturing and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students aged 11–16 with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or those excluded from mainstream education.
  • Assist in delivering tailored learning plans under the guidance of teaching staff and SENCO.
  • Build positive relationships with students to encourage engagement and progress.
  • Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Support with de-escalation and crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external agencies.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural challenges, or in alternative provision settings.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, empathetic approach.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with vulnerable learners.
  • Team player with excellent communication and resilience.
  • A DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous work in PRUs, youth work, residential care, or similar settings.
  • Training in Team Teach, MAPA, or other de-escalation techniques.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice and safeguarding procedures.
