Job description

GSL Education is seeking a dynamic and adaptable Learning Support Assistant to support Primary-aged pupils at a specialist Provision in Gateshead. The successful candidate will work with identified students on a 1:1 basis and within classes to enhance their behavior and outcomes. Experience supporting pupils with additional needs is desirable.

We welcome applications from those with experience in areas such as:

  1. Challenging SEN Provisions
  2. Youth, Community, or Social Services
  3. Residential Support
  4. Ex-Military, Police, Prison, or Security Services
  5. Mental Health Support Services (including Crisis or Suicide Prevention)
  6. Sports Coaching or relevant voluntary roles

Candidates with a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification are encouraged to apply.

The school has a strong reputation, with a motivated, friendly, and supportive team. The role requires Monday to Friday commitment, with a working day from (phone number removed) pm. There is potential for permanent employment after the contractual period.

Person Specification:
  • Experience supporting children aged 3-16
  • Excellent rapport-building skills
  • Good academic ability
  • Calm, kind, positive, and proactive
  • Organized and able to follow instructions
  • Ability to support pupils in small intervention groups or 1:1 academic sessions
  • Enhanced DBS registered with the update service or willingness to apply
  • Checkable work history
