Job description

Teaching Assistant Level 2 (1-1) - Birchwood High School
The role

Birchwood Community High School is a thriving school at the heart of community life and continues to grow and flourish. A post has arisen to support a young person on a 1-1 basis with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The successful candidate will work in our Key Stage 3 classroom within the school's exceptional provision - a purpose designed resourced provision that caters for up to 16 students with a diagnosis of autism. This role is a fixed term contract until 31 August 2026 in the first instance, working 31.25 hours per week, term time only, plus 5 Inset days.

The person appointed will:-

  • Ideally have experience of working with children in an educational setting and it would be desirable to have some experience of working with children who have Autism
  • Experience and understanding of how to support children who display challenging or heightened behaviour
  • Have experience of or be willing to implement interventions and strategies to overcome barriers to learning in order to speed up academic progress
  • Support children who can display challenging behaviour
  • Be a team player with a good sense of humour
  • Have a sensitive but enthusiastic approach
  • Be willing to undertake first aid training and Team Teach training
