Job description

The job itself

Join Our Nurturing and Inclusive School Community.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our committed team at Thorngumbald Primary School, where relationships, inclusion, and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who believes that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported in their learning journey. We are looking for someone who is not only hardworking and proactive but also deeply nurturing and emotionally attuned to the needs of children especially those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or who may have experienced adversity or trauma.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a strong understanding of SEND and the impact of trauma on children's development and behaviour.
  • Be able to form positive, trusting relationships with children, staff and families.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team, showing initiative, resilience and flexibility.
  • Be calm, consistent, and creative in supporting emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
  • Have a passion for helping children thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

At Thorngumbald, we believe that connection comes before correction, and that every behaviour is a form of communication. If you share our belief in nurturing the whole child and want to make a real difference, we would love to hear from you.

We offer:

  • A warm, supportive staff team with a shared commitment to relational, trauma-informed practice.
  • Ongoing training and development in areas such as attachment, trauma, and inclusive practice.
  • A school culture where wellbeing and belonging are a priority for both children and staff.

If you are ready to bring your empathy, energy, and expertise to our school community, we welcome your application.
