Job summary

Reed in Cambridge is seeking a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to support children with complex learning needs. You will provide one-to-one assistance, help implement individual learning plans, create an inclusive classroom, and collaborate with teachers, parents and external professionals to tailor progression plans.

The school serves pupils aged 5 to 19 with autism, challenging behaviour and complex needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience or qualification in special education is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to work effectively with children aged 5–19 with a range of needs.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one assistance to students to meet learning goals.
  • Assist with implementing individualized learning plans and interventions.
  • Create and maintain an inclusive, nurturing classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents and professionals to tailor progress plans.
  • Monitor and report on academic and social-emotional development.
  • Support students during outings and extracurricular activities.

Position Details:
  • Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom
  • Contract Type: Full-time OR Part-time
  • Hours: 08:30 - 15:30
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Pay Rate: £14.24 - £16 per hour
What You'll Do:
  • Provide one-on-one assistance to students, ensuring their individual learning goals are met.
  • Assist with the implementation of specialized learning plans and educational interventions.
  • Create and maintain a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team, parents, and external professionals to develop tailored strategies for each student's progress.
  • Monitor and report on students' academic and social‑emotional development.
  • Support students during outings, field trips, and extracurricular activities.

  • A genuine passion for working with children and young people with special educational needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Relevant experience or qualifications in special education (desirable but not essential).
