The post is permanent, available full-time or part-time, term-time only (39 weeks). Hours are 8.45am–4.15pm (full-time) or 8.45am–4.15pm on selected days (part-time), with a 45‑minute lunch. Previous experience with teenagers is desirable.

Job description

The College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and hardworking Teaching Assistant / Learning Facilitator to join the College’s Learning Support Department. The successful applicant will be required to work with staff and students on a variety of college courses to support student learning, as well as on a one-to-one or small group basis.

The post is available on a permanent, full or part-time, term-time only basis (39 weeks per year). The hours of work are either: –

Full-time – 8.45am to 4.15pm, Monday to Friday, with a 45-minute unpaid lunch break each day (79.34%), or

Part-time – 8.45am to 4.15pm, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday or Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, with a 45-minute unpaid lunch break each day (47.60%)

Previous experience of working with teenagers is desirable, but not essential. The post holder will spend a significant amount of the working day interacting with students, including covering lessons, so the ability to feel confident in the presence of and communicating with young adults is essential. The role requires an appreciation of working within an educational context supporting learning.

The post holder will be required to work with students with mild to complex learning needs. Whilst experience in this area is desirable, basic appreciation is essential. The post requires commitment and flexibility in the approach to work, with the ability to remain calm at all times. You will be required to attend our 3 Open Evenings in the autumn term for which time off in lieu will be given.

For those with additional qualifications there is a possibility of becoming a Specialist Learning Facilitator. You will undertake specialist work supporting students with SEND and EHCPs etc. You will act as a mentor and critical friend to other Learning Facilitators, ensuring that they are able to meet the demands of their role. The Specialist Learning Facilitators are paid on a higher point on the scale (see salary details below).

The Department

The Department is housed in the Priory Building in a purpose-built centre that includes quiet working areas, desktop computers and one-to-one spaces. The Department has access to mobile learning devices and specialist software to further enhance learning.

The Department is a large and friendly team who work in a co-operative and flexible manner. Strong emphasis is given to mutual support by the exchange of ideas and materials.

Teaching Assistant/Learning Facilitator

Full-time, term-time only (79.34%) is from £21,120.31 to £21,710.60 per annum (FTE £26,620 to £27,364).

Part-time, term-time only (47.60%) is from £12,671.12 to £13,025.26 (FTE £26,620 to £27,364).

Full-time, term-time only (79.34%) is from £21,434.49 to £21,877.21 per annum (FTE £27,016 to £27,574).

Part-time, term-time only (47.60%) is from £12,859.62 to £13,125.22 per annum (FTE £27,016 to £27,574).
