About the Role:

Cover People are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Salford for a dedicated SEND Pastoral Assistant. This exciting opportunity is perfect for individuals who are passionate about supporting children with SEND and SEMH needs.

As a SEND Pastoral Assistant, you will play a key role in helping children thrive both inside and outside of the classroom. You will provide one-on-one support for SEND and SEMH children, helping them to engage in their learning and develop essential life skills. You will work closely with the class teachers, pastoral leads, and other support staff to create a nurturing and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to SEND and SEMH students in and out of the classroom.
  • Assist with behavioural management strategies and implement individual learning plans.
  • Build trusting relationships with students, helping them to feel confident and safe in their learning environment.
  • Support the emotional well-being of students, using appropriate strategies to promote positive behaviours.
  • Work closely with teachers and other staff to plan and adapt activities to meet the individual needs of SEND students.
  • Foster an inclusive environment where all students are encouraged to achieve their potential.
  • Monitor and track progress, providing regular updates to the SEND coordinator and other relevant staff.
  • Be proactive in managing any challenging behaviours and provide calm and effective interventions.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience supporting children with SEND and SEMH needs is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND, including specific strategies for supporting SEMH children.
  • Resilience, patience, and the ability to manage challenging situations with a calm and positive approach.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with children, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and development.
