Job summary

RNN Group is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant at North Notts College, Worksop, to work with lecturers and curriculum teams to empower learners, including SEND students, to build independence and high-level skills. You will support planning, delivery, and assessment, reporting to the Curriculum Manager and collaborating across campuses.

The role requires Level 3/Level 2 qualifications, safeguarding training, and a willingness to pursue CPD.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or willingness to work towards).
  • Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualifications (e.g., GCSE Grade C/4 or above).
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding, Prevent, and Diversity & Inclusion.
  • Current First Aid certificate (or willingness to work towards).
  • Commitment to ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Responsibilities

  • Support planning and delivery of teaching, learning, and assessment in/out of classroom.
  • Report to Curriculum Manager and collaborate with vocational teams.
  • Supervise and assist learners, ensuring safety and inclusion.
  • Help create and implement ILPs and EHCP targets.
  • Break down skills, promote independence and work skills.
  • Guide students in using digital platforms and assistive tech.
  • Prepare learning resources and manage classroom dynamics.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback on learner progress.
  • Work across multiple college campuses with TA teams.

What is the Role?

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support the planning and delivery of high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment both in and out of the classroom. You will report to the Curriculum Manager and collaborate closely with vocational curriculum teams.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Supporting Young People: Supervise and assist learners across various curriculum areas, ensuring their safety, inclusion, active participation, and positive well-being.
  • SEND & EHCP Target Implementation: Help create and implement Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and use Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan targets tailored to individual needs.
  • Skill Breakdown & Independence: Break down complex skills into smaller tasks and build from easier to harder activities to promote self-esteem, life skills, and work skills.
  • Digital & Assistive Learning: Guide students in using digital platforms, Google Classroom, and assistive technologies for shared active learning.
  • Classroom & Teacher Support: Partner with teachers/tutors to prepare learning resources, manage classroom dynamics, and cultivate a positive learning environment.
  • Progress Tracking & Feedback: Monitor, record, and provide feedback on learners' incremental progress in knowledge, skills, and behaviours.
  • Cross-Campus Collaboration: Work with the RNN Group TA team and Professional and Academic Standards Team to develop best practices across multiple college campuses.
Essential Qualifications & Training
  • Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (or a willingness to work towards it).
  • Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualifications (e.g., GCSE Grade C/4 or above).
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding, Prevent, and Diversity & Inclusion
  • Current First Aid certificate (or willingness to work towards if required).
  • Commitment to ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Desirable Experience
  • Teaching Support Experience: Experience in supporting teaching and learning within an educational environment.
  • Youth Engagement: Proven experience of working with children and young people.
  • SEND Support: Direct experience of supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Curriculum Knowledge: Experience of working with curriculum frameworks in Further Education (FE) or school settings.
Essential Skills, Knowledge & Attributes
  • FE Methodology: Understanding of FE teaching methodology and classroom activities.
  • High Expectations: A belief in young people's ability to achieve, coupled with high expectations for their progress.
  • Digital Literacy: Ability to use ICT, Google Classroom, and assistive tools to enhance teaching quality.
  • Communication & Empathy: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a young-person-centred, empathetic approach.
  • Adaptability & Resilience: Ability to manage conflicting demands, adapt learning activities to individual needs, and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Mobility & Teamwork: A collaborative team player willing to work across multiple curriculum areas and travel to different campuses.
