Job description

Job Title: SEND Teaching & Support Assistant

We are currently in a close partnership with a Multi Academy Trust in East Sussex, seeking Teaching Assistants for their SEN schools.

Working with young people can be rewarding but challenging, requiring patience, adaptability, and a positive attitude.

The role involves supporting young people with identified Special Educational Needs or disabilities, helping to remove barriers to accessing the curriculum, engaging in learning, and reaching their full potential.

Experience working with young people is beneficial; however, applications from candidates with backgrounds in supporting those with additional needs or care work are also welcome.

This is a great opportunity to progress your career, especially if you are seeking a change and wish to improve outcomes for young people.

About the School:

The school has a proven track record of success with learners on the Autistic Spectrum, including those with complex needs. It admits students aged 5 to 16, with post-16 courses up to age 21. The school operates across two sites in East Sussex, both located in the countryside, featuring mini-farms, small animal areas, and horticultural pods.

Each site supports up to fifty students, with a highly qualified and experienced staff team. The high staff-to-student ratio and the use of various therapies, along with close collaboration with occupational therapists and SALT, contribute to the school's success with students who have struggled in other environments.

Responsibilities of a SEND Teaching & Support Assistant:
  • Build and maintain successful relationships with young people.
  • Support individual or groups of students in various learning environments.
  • Mentor and role model positive behaviors.
  • Assist with physical, personal, or medical needs to promote independence.
  • Implement specific educational programs.
  • Deliver activities to small groups.
  • Record observations on behavior and progress.
  • Experience with challenging behavior is desirable.

We welcome candidates with experience in settings such as youth offending services, emergency services, residential care, youth services, creative industries, sports coaching, or graduates in Drama, Psychology, or Sports Studies.

Protocol Education's SEND Team values individual care and long-term development. We aim to help you reach your full potential and enjoy your work.

Requirements:
  • DBS certificate with a live subscription or willingness to obtain one.
  • Two professional references from the last three years.
  • Commitment to safeguarding young people.

We offer a £50 referral bonus for candidates referred who work through us (T&Cs apply). If interested, please apply with your CV.

Applicants must have appropriate qualifications and training. Please check the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for details.

Pay rates include holiday pay. This is a temporary role, with potential for permanency.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and conducts checks in line with 'Keeping Children Safe in Education'. We provide free safeguarding and Prevent Duty training. All candidates must undertake or have completed a DBS check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

Full support is provided throughout the application process. For our privacy policy, visit the Protocol Education website.
