Job summary

Durham County Council in Barnard Castle is seeking a teaching assistant to support early years and key stage pupils. The role is based at Bowes Hutchinson’s C of E VA Primary School and requires flexibility to support across the whole school.

Contract is temporary until 31 August 2027, 32.5 hours per week (8:30am-3:30pm), starting 25 November 2026 or as soon as possible. Visits are encouraged and DBS checks will be completed.

Qualifications

• Must hold a qualification meeting the approved ‘full and relevant’ Early Years criteria.
• Ability to converse with customers in accurate spoken English is essential.

Responsibilities

• Support across EYFS/KS1 initially at Bowes Hutchinson’s C of E VA Primary School and across the whole school as needed.
• Work 32.5 hours per week, term time plus allowances, starting 25 November 2026 or as soon as possible.
