Job description

Northumberland County Council is recruiting an enthusiastic and well-motivated teaching and learning assistant. The core role involves working with children, their families, teaching staff, and the Education Welfare Service to deliver appropriate education to children unable to attend school due to health needs. The postholder will be based at the Northumberland Education Engagement Hub, where teaching for children with health needs occurs, and will be a member of the Engagement Teaching team.

The Education Engagement Hub is a short-term service that provides teaching until pupils are well enough to return to their mainstream school or another educational setting. You will support pupils in their lessons, promote good attendance, and assist in planning a smooth transition back to full-time education.

You will work with pupils either on a one-to-one or small group basis at the teaching venue, at home, or online, under the guidance of the Engagement Teaching team.

Teaching is delivered in English, Maths, Science, and PSHE up to Year 11. Younger pupils follow a more topic-based primary curriculum.

Applicants should have a good general education and experience working in an education or social care setting. The role is term-time only.

For an informal discussion, please contact Sue Laws at 07599 656994.

This role is full-time, on a term-time basis.
