Job description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people with Autism and Social Emotional and Mental Health needs?

We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic, and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at a specialist school for pupils aged 7 to 19 with Autism and/or Social Emotional and Mental Health needs. As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students to support their academic, social, and emotional development, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering personalised learning programs tailored to individual needs.

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with special needs, both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Support students with their social and emotional development, using effective strategies to manage behaviour and promote positive interactions.

  • Foster a calm and supportive atmosphere, ensuring students feel safe and understood.

  • Help students develop essential life skills, communication, and independence.

  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, and external agencies.

  • Contribute to the development and review of Individual Education Plans and monitor student progress.

  • Provide pastoral care and ensure the well being of students at all times.

About You:

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in working with children or young people with SEN, particularly those with ASD and/or SEMH.

  • Patient, empathetic, and able to build positive relationships with students.

  • Flexible, proactive, and willing to adapt to the varying needs of students.

  • Strong behaviour management skills

  • Committed to supporting the academic and emotional development of students.

  • Ideally, you will have a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent, though experience is just as valuable.
