Main responsibilities:
- Underthe direction of the school's SENDCO work alongside members of the LearningSupport Team;
- Tosupport students with learning, physical, medical, emotional and behaviouraldifficulties to access the curriculum, make appropriate progress and developappropriate classroom behaviour
- Toactively promote and contribute to the academy ethos and values
- Tosupport teachers in facilitating and encouraging learning, which enablesstudents to achieve high standards and to become independent learners
- Tocontribute to the evaluation of the school's SEND Policy and Inclusion Policyand practice through discussions with relevant staff
- Toattend appropriate in-service training provided by the school or localauthority
- Toattend school team meetings and meetings with external agencies as required andto prepare reports for these meetings, if required
- Toprovide in-class support for identified individual students or small groups ofstudents (e.g. 4-5 students), including specialist subject support asappropriate.
- Underthe direction of the class teacher, to assist in the management of the whole classthrough the overt modelling of effective behaviour management techniques.
- Underthe direction of a class teacher or SENDCO to develop and lead small group workfor identified students (e.g. reading schemes, phonics, spelling,numeracy and social skills to groups of 4-5 students) and to contribute to theappropriate paperwork for these groups.
- Toassist in the production of teaching and learning materials for students,including differentiating the materials.
- Toprovide support, to include personal care if required, for student(s)experiencing physical or medical difficulties (following training)
- Toprovide before and after school support for identified students as required.
- Toprovide regular feedback to the class teacher and to the SENDCO or the relevantline manager.
- To useappropriate systems for recording the progress of students with behavioural andlearning difficulties.
- Toprovide data and information to inform Annual and Transition Review paperwork,PSPs (Pastoral Support Programmes), Student Profile documentation and AcademicReporting.
- Toundertake assessment of students and to provide data to the relevant member(s)of staff for analysis.
- Toprovide support to identified students undertaking tests/exams to enable themto make full use of their access arrangements.
- To communicate withprofessionals (e.g. Educational Psychologist) as required.
- Topromote student independence by using a variety of reward strategies.
- To effectively communicate with parents/carers on a regular basis throughout the year to ensure students' individual needs are reviewed and met in line with their plans.
- To liaise with other teams across the school to ensure all student needs are met.
- Tosupport with first aid responsibilities
You will need:
- A good relevanteducation to GCSE Level or equivalent
- Furtherqualifications or training relevant to the role such as an NVQ level 2 or aboveTA qualification.
- Knowledge and/or training on SEMH Practical experience of workingwith Neuro diverse students
- Previous experience of working withstudents that have SEMH needs.
- Successful experience of working within a Secondary school/ Educationsetting
- Experience of using Information Technology to support students in theclassroom.
- Experience of supporting SEN students in a mainstream classroomenvironment
- Knowledge of strategies to recognise and reward efforts and achievementsalong with the ability to encourage students to become self-reliant andindependent learners.
- Knowledge of SEND.
- Knowledge ofbehaviour management strategies
- Goodinterpersonal skills with both adults and children.
- Be dependable, able to follow instructions and respond to managementdirections.
- Have good working ICT knowledge.
- Have a willingness to extend skills through appropriate training
- A passion anddesire to drive things forward.
