Brief overview of the role:


We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join our supportive team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about working with children to gain handson experience in education while studying towards a nationally recognised qualification (Level 3 Teaching Assistant SEND).

As an apprentice you will work alongside experienced staff supporting pupils learning and development contributing to a positive learning environment and helping all children to thrive.

Apprenticeship Summary:

  • Working week:Monday to Friday 5 or 6 hours per day tbc
  • 8:00am start till 3:30pm.

Please note: Oasis Academy Longcross is currently seeking an Apprentice to support their SEND Resource Base working onetoone with children who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This is a key part of the role so please only apply if you are genuinely passionate about working with children with SEND and committed to providing individualised support.

Responsibilities will include:

  • The post holder is responsible to their line manager and the Phase Leader for their duties responsibilities and tasks.
  • The post holder will adhere to the schools values and vision abiding by the agreed policies and procedures to ensure provision is of the highest quality.
  • The post holder undertakes support for the teachers of the children within the school including associated pastoral and administrative duties as well as general responsibilities as agreed with the Headteacher.
  • The post holder will interact on a professional level with all colleagues and establish and maintain good working relationships to promote the development and effective delivery of the school curriculum and maximise childrens achievement.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the pastoral care and safeguarding of the children within their session class or groups ensuring that childrens safety wellbeing and welfare are at the forefront of all they do.
  • Implement agreed work programmes with individual pupils or groups and support teaching staff in the development and education of pupils including providing detailed and specialist skills/knowledge in particular areas.
  • Support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) on a 1:1 basis in small groups or within the classroom under the guidance of the SENCO and class teacher.
  • Assist the teacher in the full planning teaching and assessment cycle.
  • Supervise and lead groups of children (including during lunchtime).
  • Implement all policies and practices in line with the ethos of the school.
  • Through reflective practice support a creative inclusive curriculum that values learning through small group working practices.
  • Support excellent progress for children across all areas of development through effective participation in observation assessment and planning.
  • Help create a stimulating environment that supports learning.
  • Support parents in becoming competent and confident coeducators.

Essential:

  • A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their education.
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above or equivalent.
  • Commitment to completing the apprenticeship training programme.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Patience resilience and a positive attitude.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a school or childcare setting (paid or voluntary).
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection (training will be provided).
