Contract: Permanent

Are you a compassionate, energetic individual ready to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We’re currently recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a well-established specialist school in Paignton. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact in a setting that values inclusion, creativity and student development.

This independent co-educational school caters to a small number of students aged 7 - 18, providing high quality, personalised learning in a safe, structured environment. The school supports students facing SEMH challenges that may have created barriers in traditional educational settings.

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in both classroom and pastoral support. Working closely with teachers and senior staff, you’ll help foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere where students can build confidence, engage in learning and achieve their goals.

You’ll support learners individually and in small groups, adapting resources and activities to suit their needs and help manage classroom dynamics in a calm and constructive way.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day support to students with SEMH needs
  • Assist with planning and delivery of classroom activities
  • Offer 1:1 or 2:1 support for pupils who need additional guidance
  • Promote student engagement, independence and emotional wellbeing
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to deliver personalised learning strategies
  • Use positive behaviour strategies to maintain a supportive learning environment

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with young people, especially those with additional needs or in a SEN/SEMH environment
  • A calm, resilient and nurturing personality
  • Ability to work flexibly and respond positively to change
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare

Why You’ll Love This Role:

  • Competitive salary with opportunities for career growth
  • Ongoing training and professional development - both online and face-to-face
  • A warm, supportive working environment with expert mentoring
  • Full induction programme
  • Part of a nationwide care and education group, offering long-term progression
  • A real opportunity to make a difference every single day
