As a Teaching Assistant, you will be enhancing the learning of pupils who have a wide range of special educational and learning needs. You will also be supporting the teaching staff in enabling the pupils to gain independence, participate fully in the curriculum, and the general life of the school. This role will be based at Herdley Bank School.
Duties will include:
- Supporting pupils in various settings: classroom, groups, lunch, break times, and unstructured/social times.
- Accompanying pupils on organised school visits as appropriate.
- In conjunction with the SENDCo, assisting with the development of social skills and appropriate behaviour of pupils.
- Participating in the development, delivery, and monitoring of individual programmes.
- Supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.
- Assisting in resolving issues that cause anxiety or emotional responses in pupils.
- Keeping accurate records as required by the school.
- Collaborative planning with teaching staff to ensure effective support.
- Supporting the delivery of the Key Stage and school’s curriculum map.
- Working in groups where appropriate.
- Being part of a flexible and supportive team to further the ethos of the school.
- Attending weekly staff meetings and relevant INSET/CPD events.
All Applicants must have:
- Appropriate academic qualifications to at least GCSE standard, professional qualifications to at least NVQ level, or proven competency through experience.
- Basic first aid knowledge.
- The ability to work on their own initiative with a high level of accuracy.
- Good time management skills and flexibility.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to operate as part of a busy team.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training for personal development.
- Knowledge of child development and understanding of different learning styles.
- Knowledge of ACEs or childhood trauma effects is beneficial; training will be provided.
- Access to a vehicle and a full driving licence due to location.
- Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
- The role is term-time only.
