Job summary

Greenshaw Learning Trust's Henley Bank High School is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support learning and behaviour in a busy secondary school. You will work with SENCOs and subject leaders to support literacy, run small groups, differentiate materials and assist in classrooms.

The role involves professional development, a generous pension and a range of staff benefits. Applicants should have GCSEs including English and Maths, a Level 3 qualification, and prior experience with children,

Qualifications

  • At least 5 GCSEs including Maths and English (Grade C/4 or higher).
  • NVQ 2 or equivalent in relevant area or similar.
  • Level 3 vocational training/qualification in care, development and education of children or relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-class support as directed by SENCO or subject leaders.
  • Engage with MITA process to maximise impact of teaching assistants.
  • Assist in managing the class under the teacher's direction and model effective behaviour management.
  • Develop and lead small group work for identified students to support literacy.
  • Assist in producing teaching and learning materials and differentiate materials.
  • Provide after-school support for identified students as required.
  • Provide regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Use systems to record progress of students with learning difficulties.
  • Provide data for reviews as part of the graduated SEND approach.
  • Complete break duties to support positive behaviour.
  • Contribute to the school's ethos and participate in training.
  • Assist with exam invigilation when required and support year group activities.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join our established teaching assistant team at the school. This is an exciting opportunity to join GLT / Henley Bank High School and become an integral member of the team.

We are a successful secondary school based in Brockworth, extremely close to junction 11a of the M5. The school has consistently been achieving excellent academic results over the past few years with the GCSE results of 2023 being in the top 1% of results in the country, as well as the highest results for any non-selective school in Gloucestershire. Main responsibilities:
  • To provide in-class support as directed by the SENCO or subject leaders
  • To engage proactively with the school’s MITA (Maximising Impact of Teaching Assistants) process
  • Under the direction of the class teacher, to assist in the management of the whole class through the overt modelling of effective behaviour management techniques
  • Under the direction of the SENCO, to develop and lead small group work for identified students supporting their literacy skills
  • To assist in the production of teaching and learning materials for students, including differentiating the materials
  • To provide after school support for identified students as required
  • To provide regular feedback to the class teacher and to the SENCO or the relevant line manager
  • To use appropriate systems for recording the progress of students with learning difficulties
  • To provide data and information to inform reviews as part of the graduated approach to SEND
  • Complete break duties as required to support with positive behaviour
  • Contribute to the overall ethos of the school
  • Participate in training and other learning activities as required
  • To provide and support with exam invigilating as and when required
  • Support any whole year school trips/activities
  • To take part in school activities such as Open Evenings, Academic Review Days, Liaison events with partner schools
  • To communicate effectively with parents/carers of students, visitors to the school and colleagues
You will need:
  • Hold at least 5 GCSE’s or equivalent, which must include at least a Grade C/4 in Maths and English
  • NVQ 2 and/or equivalent qualification in relevant area
  • Proven successful experience working with or caring for children in any setting
  • Minimum Level 3 vocational training / qualification in the care, development and education of children or relevant experience
  • Proven successful experience working within a school
  • Proven successful experience working with children with SEN needs in particular those with literacy and communication needs
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning
  • The ability to work constructively as part of a team, follow line management structures and understand classroom roles and your own position within those responsibilities
  • The ability to take the initiative to support students presenting with a range of SENDThe ability to work in a flexible way and think 'outside the box' in order to co-produce learning plans that support a young person's resilience
  • To be able to form empathetic relationships with young people and be able to communicate their needs effectively to other professionals
  • Knowledge of strategies to recognise and reward efforts and achievements along with the ability to encourage students to become resilient, self-reliant and independent learners
