Job description

ACS International Schools are recruiting a One-to-One Teaching Assistant to join the Middle School team ACS Egham campus from August 2025.

The Middle School Teaching Assistant will provide one to one support on a full-time basis to one student. The post holder will work closely with the SENCO and the Student Support Department and be guided by their instructions. This role is to support the student by promoting and reinforcing their self-esteem and encouraging the student to maximise their achievement and development. The Teaching Assistant will work to establish a supportive relationship with the parents concerned, to facilitate effective communication and a partnership between School and home environments. The Teaching Assistant will encourage acceptance and inclusion of the student, to support achievement and development.

Individual Guidance and Support:

  • To undertake activities with the student to facilitate their physical, emotional and educational development within a safe environment, under the supervision the SENCO and the learning support specialists and classroom teachers.
  • Attend classes with the student and support their learning within the classroom environment;
  • Plan and prepare lessons in collaboration with Classroom and SEN teachers, including evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans;
  • Develop and prepare resources for learning activities in accordance with lesson plans and in response to student needs;
  • Motivate and progress student’s learning by using clearly structured, interesting teaching and learning activities;
  • Promote and support student inclusion with learning activities within the classroom;
  • Be aware of and support differences, ensuring all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop;
  • Support the student to gain independence, allowing them to achieve their academic potential;
  • Assist in maintaining good discipline of student throughout the school day. To accompany and supervise student on planned educational visits and journeys;

Behavioural and Pastoral:

  • Foster and maintain constructive and supportive relationships with parents, exchanging appropriate information, facilitating their support for their child’s attendance, access and learning, and supporting home to School and community links;
  • Assist teachers by receiving instructions directly from professionals or specialist support staff involved in the students’ education. Including, but not exclusive to: social workers, health visitors, language support staff, speech therapists, educational psychologists, physiotherapists;
  • Recognise and challenge any unacceptable behaviors, including but not exclusive to: incidents of abuse with equal opportunities. To ensure students’ compliance with relevant School policies and procedures to ensure the individual/s involved understand expectations;
  • Provide support and assistance for the students’ pastoral needs;
  • Understand and implement School Child Protection procedures and comply with legal requirements.

Key Requirements:

  • GCSE (A-C) or NVQ Level 2 in numeracy & literacy;
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) for supporting and teaching & learning in school
  • Experience of supporting children with difficulties in reading, writing and interaction with others;
  • Proven ability to be proactive, approachable, empathetic, organized, highly visible and confident, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • The ability to observe confidentially
  • Ability to work in teams in a variety of circumstances, and to accept change with flexibility.
  • To apply good organisational and time management skills.
  • To apply effective oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the IB program;
  • Knowledge of the needs of a child with Dyspraxia;
  • Experience working alongside specialist therapists, including Speech, Language and Occupational;
  • Teaching EFL/ESL Reading
  • Knowledge of adolescent concerns and current information sources.

Start date: August 2025

Duration: One fixed year initially, with the potential to be extended
