Job summary

Destination Education seeks an experienced Post-16 SEN Teaching Assistant to support young adults with complex learning needs at a dedicated Edgware college.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups, helping with independent living skills, functional English and Maths, and employability. DBS on update service or recent DBS is required. The role is full-time with immediate start and is accessible via Edgware Underground.

Qualifications

• Has strong SEN experience, ideally with complex learning needs.
• Confident supporting learners 1:1 and in small groups.
• Patient, calm, encouraging and consistent; builds strong relationships with young adults.
• Understands Post-16 SEN aims to develop independence, not just classroom tasks.
• DBS on Update Service or DBS issued within last 12 months.
• College experience is desirable but not essential.

POST-16 SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT – EDGWARE

£110–£120 per day | Immediate start | Full-time

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking to make a real difference to young people’s lives beyond school? We are looking for a strong, proactive and compassionate SEN TA to join a specialist Post-16 SEN college in Edgware, supporting young adults with complex additional learning needs as they prepare for greater independence, further education, employment and adult life.

THE ROLE

You will work closely with Post-16 learners, providing individual and small-group support across a highly personalised curriculum.

• Preparation for further college courses, supported employment and adult life

You may also support learners during work placements and community-based activities, making this a varied role where no two days are necessarily the same.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO

• Has strong SEN experience, ideally with complex learning needs
• Is confident supporting young people on a 1:1 and small-group basis
• Is patient, calm, encouraging and consistent
• Can build excellent relationships with young adults
• Understands that Post-16 SEN support is about developing independence, not simply completing classroom tasks
• Is happy supporting learners with practical activities, vocational learning and life skills
• Can encourage students to communicate, make choices and develop confidence
• Has excellent safeguarding awareness
• Ideally has experience of autism, learning difficulties, complex needs or challenging behaviour
• Has an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service OR an Enhanced DBS certificate issued within the last 12 months
• College experience is desirable but NOT essential – strong SEN experience within schools, specialist settings or other relevant environments will be considered.
