Join GSL Education as a Teaching Assistant for Complex Needs Learners

Location: Bordon

Start Date: ASAP/ September 2025

Salary Scale: £13.80 to £15 per hour

An exciting opportunity has opened for Teaching Assistants to join a welcoming and supportive special school in Bordon. If you’re passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with SEN, this role could be an ideal fit for you.

This is a deeply rewarding position where you’ll play a vital role in helping students who need extra support to thrive both academically and in their everyday school life.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support students with additional needs to access learning and reach their full potential. You will assist the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons and maintaining a positive classroom environment, including preparing learning materials and helping with classroom setup. You’ll provide one-to-one or small group support as directed, bringing energy, creativity, and positivity into every interaction. Staying calm and dependable under pressure is essential, as is your commitment to promoting inclusion, equality, and safeguarding all pupils. You will need to be flexible and responsive to the changing needs of the school, nurturing students' emotional well-being with care and empathy. Collaboration is key, so you will work closely with teachers, staff, families, and external professionals to support each child’s development and success.

About the Academy:

The school supports pupils aged 4 to 19 with complex learning needs, providing a nurturing environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. They have a dedicated team of highly trained staff who work closely with each child’s strengths, setting high but achievable expectations. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and benefit from a collaborative approach involving therapists, medical professionals, and specialist teachers. A range of on-site therapies, including speech and language, occupational, and physiotherapy, is available to support pupils' individual needs. Personal development—spiritual, moral, social, and cultural—is central to their ethos, helping students gain independence and prepare for adult life. A full-time nurse is also based on site to support pupil well-being.

What you’ll need to be a Teaching Assistant:

  • Strong communication skills – both written and spoken
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH, or other additional needs (or a strong desire to learn).
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/Level 4 or above
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting is desirable but not essential – full training and support will be provided!

What We Offer:

  • Opportunities to develop expertise in supporting complex learning needs.
  • Work closely with a multi-agency team including therapists, medical professionals, and social services.
  • Staff trained in emergency medication and First Aid.
  • A wide range of CPD opportunities, including safeguarding, e-safety, and behaviour management.
  • Specialist training available (e.g., PECS, Attention Autism, pool safety, moving & handling).
