Job summary

The Bedford College Group is seeking a Teaching and Learning Mentor in Apprenticeships to join the Apprenticeships department at Corby Campus. You will mentor learners, monitor progress, and provide pastoral support to help apprentices overcome barriers and achieve their personal and academic goals.

You will work closely with employers and external agencies, ensure safeguarding and inclusion, and contribute to a safe, supportive learning environment while aligning with college values and

Qualifications

  • Holds a minimum Level 3 teaching qualification and Level 2 English and Maths.
  • Experience supporting young people and vulnerable adults in educational settings through tutorials, mentoring and pastoral care.
  • Strong communication with parents, employers, external agencies and colleagues, delivering reports and updates.

Responsibilities

  • Lerner mentoring and personal development for apprentices, helping them build confidence and achieve goals.
  • Progress monitoring and intervention including attendance, progress reviews and data recording.
  • Pastoral support, wellbeing and safeguarding activities for learners.
  • Stakeholder engagement with employers, parents/carers and agencies to coordinate support and updates.
  • Safeguarding, equality and inclusion promotion, contributing to a safe learning environment.

Job description

Role: Teaching and Learning Mentor – Apprenticeships

Location: Tresham College – Corby Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £25,585 and £30,915 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About The Role

We are currently seeking a Teaching and Learning Mentor in Apprenticeships to join our Apprenticeships department at The Bedford College Group.

  • Learner Mentoring & Personal Development - Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring to apprentices, helping them build confidence, improve study skills, overcome barriers to learning, and achieve their personal and academic goals.
  • Progress Monitoring & Intervention - Support target setting, review learner progress, identify at-risk learners, implement intervention strategies, monitor attendance and punctuality, and maintain accurate records to promote learner success.
  • Pastoral Support & Wellbeing - Deliver wellbeing, safeguarding and personal development activities, provide pastoral guidance, promote mental health awareness, and refer learners to specialist support services where appropriate.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Communication - Work closely with employers, parents/carers, staff and external agencies to coordinate support, provide progress updates, and ensure learners receive the assistance needed to succeed.
  • Safeguarding, Behaviour & Professional Standards - Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, support the application of behaviour and disciplinary procedures, undertake mandatory training, and contribute to a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
About You
  • Qualifications & Educational Experience - Holds a minimum Level 3 teaching qualification and Level 2 English and Maths, with experience supporting young people and vulnerable adults in educational settings through tutorials, mentoring and pastoral care.
  • Learner Support & Intervention Skills - Skilled in motivating learners, identifying and supporting at-risk students, delivering effective tutorials, creating high-quality learning materials, and implementing strategies that promote learner engagement, wellbeing and achievement.
  • Communication & Stakeholder Engagement - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience liaising effectively with parents, employers, external agencies and colleagues, delivering presentations, and providing clear reports and updates.
  • Organisation, Administration & Problem Solving - Demonstrates excellent administration, record-keeping and coordination skills, with the ability to manage resources, meet deadlines, analyse problems, develop practical solutions, and ensure compliance with audit and apprenticeship requirements.
  • Professionalism, Flexibility & College Values - Committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, and continuous professional development, with the flexibility to travel, visit apprentices in the workplace, and work in line with The Bedford College Group’s values, policies and procedures.
