PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER
Regulations: Teachers (Terms and Conditions of Employment) Regulations (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1987, Schedule 3, Regulation 5
A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out professional duties as required, including:
Teachers shall perform duties reasonably assigned by the principal or the board, including planning, teaching, assessing, reporting, and participating in meetings.
Plan and prepare courses and lessons, teach according to pupils' needs, and assess and report on their development.
Promote pupils' progress and wellbeing, provide advice, make records, communicate with parents and external bodies, and participate in meetings.
Provide assessments, reports, and references related to pupils.
Participate in staff development schemes, review teaching methods, and cooperate on curriculum development.
Maintain discipline and safeguard health and safety on school premises and during activities.
Prepare pupils for public exams, assess, record, and supervise during exams.
Contribute to staff recruitment, coordinate work, manage activities, and supervise pupils before, during, and after school.
Available for 195 days/year, with specific weekly hours and breaks, as detailed in the original description.
Supervise pupils in the absence of their teacher, with conditions based on school size.
