JOB TITLE: Teacher - Primary
REPORTS TO: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher

- Exercise of general professional duties
- A teacher (not a principal) shall carry out professional duties as required, under reasonable directions from the principal or the employing authority, including when employed by a board without a specific school assignment.
- Exercise of particular duties
- Teachers shall perform duties reasonably assigned by the principal or the board, including planning, teaching, assessing, and reporting on pupils' development.
Specific Responsibilities
- Planning
- Developing courses and lessons, teaching pupils, and assessing their progress.
- General
- Promoting pupils' well-being, providing guidance, making records, communicating with parents and external bodies, and participating in meetings.
- Assessment/Reporting
- Providing assessments, reports, and references for pupils.
- Staff Development
- Participating in staff development schemes, reviewing teaching methods, and engaging in professional training.
- Discipline/Health and Safety
- Maintaining order, safeguarding health and safety, and participating in school meetings related to curriculum and organization.
- Public Examinations
- Preparing pupils for exams, assessing, recording, and supervising during exams.
- Management and Administration
- Contributing to staff appointment, managing other teachers, and participating in curriculum and organizational development.
- Working Hours
- Availability for 195 days/year, with specific hours and breaks outlined, including travel and preparation time.
- Staff Cover
- Supervising pupils in absence of their teacher, with conditions based on school size and teacher availability.

Section 1 - Essential Criteria
- Qualified to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
- Minimum 2 years' experience teaching Foundation Stage with positive outcomes.
- Experience using diverse classroom strategies, including digital media.
- Registered with GTCNI before employment.
Section 2 - Additional Essential Criteria
- Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum, safeguarding, SEND Code of Practice, and assessment methods.
- Skills in effective teaching, classroom management, inclusivity, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication.
- Alignment with the school's values and ethos.
Section 3 - Desirable Criteria
- Extended experience, extracurricular participation, metacognitive teaching approaches, and Forest Schools experience.
