1) Exercise of general professional duties
A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require:
- (a) if employed as a teacher in a school under the reasonable direction of the principal;
- (b) if employed by a board on terms under which he/she is not assigned to any one school, under the reasonable direction of that board and of the principal of any school where he/she may be required to work.
2) Exercise of particular duties
(a) A teacher employed as a teacher (other than a principal) shall perform, in accordance with any directions reasonably given by the principal, such duties as may be assigned.
(b) A teacher to whom paragraph 1(b) refers shall perform, in accordance with directions from the board or principal, such duties as may be assigned.
3. Main Responsibilities
- Planning
- Planning and preparing courses and lessons;
- Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work;
- Assessing, recording, and reporting on pupils' development and progress.
General Responsibilities- Promoting pupils' progress and well-being;
- Providing advice on educational, social, and career matters;
- Making records and reports on pupils' personal and social needs;
- Communicating with parents and external bodies;
- Participating in relevant meetings.
Assessment/Reporting- Providing assessments, reports, and references on pupils, respecting confidentiality;
Staff and Professional Development- Participating in staff development schemes;
- Reviewing and developing teaching methods and materials;
- Advising on course and assessment development.
Discipline, Health & Safety- Maintaining discipline and safeguarding health and safety;
- Participating in curriculum and organizational meetings.
Public Examinations- Preparing pupils for exams, assessing and reporting on their performance.
Management and Administration- Contributing to staff appointments and development;
- Managing work of other teachers;
- Participating in curriculum and pastoral management;
- Managing resources and support staff.
Working Hours and Cover- Available for 195 days/year, with specific hours and duties as specified;
- Providing cover for absent teachers as per school policies.
