Job description
Overview

Teachers, do you want to experience genuine impact in the classroom? We are recruiting for an outstanding hospital school in Sheffield.

Phoenix School is the education provider for young people admitted to Cygnet Hospital Sheffield. We have specialist teachers who, in partnership with the wider hospital, provide a stimulating, safe haven where everyone is valued and respected. We promote resilience and risk-taking by delivering lessons guided by our students' curiosity and celebrating all successes. We respect the students' rights, beliefs and values; providing personalised curriculums and learning opportunities inside and outside of school, which enable our students to be empowered to meet future challenges.

Our priority is the young people and supporting them to reach their potential.

We are looking for

An outstanding teacher to join our dedicated team with the ability to inspire and motivate, as well as being able to "think outside the box" to engage pupils. We need someone who has the experience to plan and teach effective lessons whilst also able to personalise the learning to each individual. You need to be positive, consistent, committed and can contribute to a supportive, dynamic environment, as well as organised, professional, flexible, energetic & conscientious. We would welcome applications from any subject specialism and any educational background, but ideally in any of the following subject areas:

  • Geography
  • History
  • Modern Foreign Languages
  • Functional Skills English
  • Functional Skills Maths

A background or knowledge of specialist education provision would be an advantage, but not essential. Willingness and flexibility to support students in other disciplines is required.

Ofsted say
  • "Staff morale is high. Staff describe working here as a joy and a privilege. They develop a high level of expertise. They receive strong support for their welfare and workload."
  • "Teachers take genuine pleasure in helping pupils to make significant progress academically, personally and socially"
Staff say

"There is enough non-contact time in the day to complete essential tasks e.g. planning and marking".

"Strong leadership at all levels."

"You get to know all the young people well and feel like you are making a real difference to each individual's wellbeing and academic progress."

"Because of the small number of students we teach, we can offer individualized and customized support for each student that is reviewed effectively and regularly."

"Regular opportunities as a team to share experiences, strategies and ideas driving progress for each of our students."

"We have a team/collaborative approach to planning and teaching which allows us to modify and embed best practice effectively."
